Anatomical Pathologist - Relocate to New Zealand

About The Role
Ideally located in Dunedin, Wellington or Taranaki (relocation assistance offered), Awanui is actively seeking to appoint an experienced Anatomical Pathologist. You will work under the direction of the supportive Medical Director (Anatomical Pathology) and collaboratively as part of the Awanui pathology team to provide an outstanding service to referring Practitioners.
  
Responsibilities of the role will include;
  • Reporting on patient Specimens. Complete assigned work accurately and efficiently so that results can be reported to clinicians without delay and within the expected time frame.
  • Turnaround Time. The majority of cases (>90%) are to be validated within 48 hours of receiving the slides, with urgent cases taking priority.
  • Reporting. Managing reporting and timelines associated with various circumstances. Navigating the second opinion reporting strategy within the parameters of the group.
    • Frozen Section. Managing the time-critical reporting and service to requesting Clinicians
    • Cut Up. Ensuring that, where appropriate, all specimens are processed for the following day’s histology reporting.
  • Multi-Disciplinary Meetings (MDMs). Participate in MDM meetings as directed.
  • Referring Clinician Relationships. Maintain current referring clinician satisfaction through superior service delivery. Utilising all opportunities to make useful contact with clinicians.
  • Personal Organisation. Maintain professional conduct to enhance the reputation of Awanui Laboratories. Delivering a professional standard of customer service and maintaining a positive and cooperative attitude towards the customers, patients, management and team members. Ensuring that all Clinician’s enquiries are responded to in line with the Awanui timeline expectations. Provide feedback from clinicians whenever the opportunity arises.
  • Teamwork. Work as a team to detect opportunities and problems then agree to action and/or solve together.
  • Patient Care. Respect and protect the legal and personal rights of patients, in particular, maintain strict confidentiality and privacy in relation to any patient information.
  • Education & Professional Development. All pathologists will be expected to participate in the following as directed by the Medical Director:
    • CPDP program so as to maintain registration as a specialist pathologist.
    • CME program (this will overlap with the CPDP program).
    • Provision of continuing education to referring clinicians.
    • Teaching for pathology registrars, junior clinical staff and medical students.
    • Attend/Run clinico-pathologic meeting.
About You  
Key attributes required;
  • Fellowship of the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia or similar recognised postgraduate qualification recognised by the New Zealand Medical Council
  • Hold a prescribed qualification for registration with Medical Council of New Zealand in the Provisional General Scope of Practice
  • Vocational Registration as a Specialist Pathologist with the Medical Council of New Zealand
  • Disciplined and self-motivated with a positive approach to your role, focused and committed to providing a high quality of service to internal and external customers
  • Effective interpersonal skills and be able to work as part of a team
  • Able to train staff to the required level of competence
  • Effective time management skills
  • Prioritise work and meet deadlines
