Laboratory Manager - Regional Victoria

About The Company
Our client is one of the largest private pathology providers in Australia.  They are an Australia-owned, publicly listed company, operating in the areas of pathology, radiology, and clinical services.   They are known for being an established and well-respected pathology practice who are dedicated to offering comprehensive, high-quality pathology services across New South Wales and northwest Victoria.
  
About the Role
This role is based in Mildura and services the local private hospitals, aged care facilities and home visits across a radius of up to 300 kms.  Your duties and responsibilities include:
  • Supervise a team of 13 Scientists, Laboratory Assistants, Specimen Reception and Courier staff in a multi-disciplinary setting.
  • Oversee all testing for Biochemistry, Haematology/Coagulation, Blood Banking and Microbiology.
  • The laboratory hours of operation are 7 days a week from 6am to 8pm with on call shifts outside of these hours.  
  • Prioritising workflow to meet client’s requirements
  • Ensuring results are released with acceptable turn around times
  • Interpreting, developing and maintaining QC programs and ensure adherence to within the laboratory
  • Developing and maintaining training protocols
  • Overseeing training of new staff to the required standard
  • Developing and maintaining manuals for the laboratory departments in accordance with NATA standards
About You
To be considered for this role, you should have the following skills and attributes:
  • Hold a degree in medical laboratory science, biomedical science or equivalent.
  • Must hold AIMS accreditation 
  • Have at least 5 years' experience in a multi-disciplinary environment
  • Experience in managing staff and liaising with other laboratory managers, supervisors and pathologists
  • At least 3 years’ experience in blood banking is essential as the laboratory handles complex haematology cases for the region. 
  • Strong interpersonal skills to build meaningful partnerships
  • Experience in working under tight deadlines to meet day to day targets, with the capacity to manage multiple tasks within set timeline
  • Results orientated and a proactive and effective problem solver
  • Proven skills in defining, prioritising and organising competing tasks to meet deadlines
